Internationalization of Czech energy companies

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je zhodnotit proces internacionalizace českých energetických podniků, vyhodnotit jejich internacionalizační strategie a úspěšnost zahraničních aktivit. Práce se nejprve zaměřuje na představení historie energetiky a dopadu privatizace na dnešní podobu energetického sektoru v České republice. Poté je uvedena podoba regulace trhu s energiemi v rámci Evropské unie s důrazem na snahy o vytvoření jednotného evropského trhu s elektřinou a na výzvy, které přináší snaha o liberalizaci odvětví ve spojení s regulačními zásahy. Dále je popsána podoba energetického mixu České se zaměřením na přechod na obnovitelné zdroje a dopady na podniky a jejich konkurenceschopnost. Následuje představení internacionalizace a její vazby na vývoj sektoru energetiky v rámci Evropské unie. Praktická část práce se soustředí na analýzu zahraniční expanze podniků ČEZ a EPH. V závěru jsou zhodnoceny internacionalizační strategie jednotlivých firem, včetně kontroverzí, které zahraniční expanzi firem provázely.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis aims to evaluate the process of internationalization of Czech energy companies, their internationalization strategies and the success of foreign activities. The thesis first focuses on presenting the history of energy and the impact of privatization on the current form of the energy sector in the Czech Republic. Then, the form of energy market regulation within the European Union is presented, with an emphasis on efforts to create a single European electricity market and on the challenges associated with the efforts to liberalize the sector in connection with regulatory interventions. Moreover, the shape of the Czech energy mix is ​​described, with a focus on the transition to renewable sources and the impact on businesses and their competitiveness. Following, the introduction of internationalization is presented with an emphasis on the development of the energy sector within the European Union. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the analysis of the foreign expansion of ČEZ and EPH enterprises. In the end, the internationalization strategies of both companies are evaluated, including the controversies that accompanied the companies' foreign expansion.
