Structure and Functions of the Federal Reserve System

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá strukturou a činnostmi Federálního rezervního systému se zaměřením na jeho úlohu při globální finanční krizi. V rozboru je kladen důraz především na důkladnou deskripci měnové politiky a reakcí na přicházející problémy. Příčiny krize popisuje předkrizové období především za bývalého předsedy a o následných reakcích pojednává období během krize za již současného předsedy. Predikce budoucího vývoje je provedena na základě nejaktuálnějších makroekonomických dat s ohledem na předpokládaný budoucí hospodářský vývoj. Zjištění míry podílu FEDu na vzniku krize, rozbor následného postupu při jejím řešení a rovněž predikce budoucího vývoje byly hlavními cíly této diplomové práce. Zhodnocení provedené politiky a návrhy změn, zejména celého systému, nabízí závěr práce.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with both the structure and activities of the FED where the focus is put on its role during the recent global financial crisis. I put an emphasis on a thorough description of the monetary policy its reaction to the preceding problems. The origins of the crisis are covered in the pre-crisis period namely under the ex-chairman, repercussions and reaction are dealt with during the crisis with the current chairman in office. The prognosis of future development is executed on the basis of up-to-date macroeconomic data with respect to the predicted economic development. To measure to what extent was the FED involved in the crisis, the breakdown of the subsequent advancement to the solution of the crisis and also the anticipation of future development was the main focus of the thesis. The evaluation of the steps executed and some proposal of changes in the system are put down in the conclusion of the thesis.
