Smart Cities as perceived by residents of selected European cities

Abstract:

Podle Organizace spojených národů budou žít ve městech v roce 2050 více než dvě třetiny populace. To klade na města stále vyšší nároky na efektivitu, které se města snaží docílit použitím konceptu Smart City. Cílem této diplomové práce je zjistit, jak moc jsou v tom 4 vybraná evropská města (Mnichov, Curych, Praha a Vídeň) úspěšná z pohledu žebříčků a měřitelných ukazatelů a zároveň i z pohledu obyvatel daných měst. V práci bylo využito jednak sekundárních dat, za jejíchž pomoci byla města zkoumána a porovnávána, ale i primárních dat získaných vlastním výzkumem, která byla využita k detailnějšímu zkoumání postojů a názorů obyvatel měst na koncept Smart City a úspěšnost implementace tohoto konceptu v jejich městě. Výsledky ukázaly, že obyvatelé si sice Smart City v jejich městě přejí, nicméně důležitější je pro ně řešení aktuálních problémů. Města navíc dle výzkumu dostatečně nepřijímají svoji roli ekonomického, kulturního a vzdělávacího centra nejen pro občany města, ale i pro občany země a dostatečně nezapojují všechny skupiny lidí, které se ve městě pohybují.

Abstract:

According to the United Nations, more than two-thirds of the population will live in cities by 2050. This places increasing demands on cities for the efficiency, which cities are trying to achieve by adopting the Smart City concept. The aim of this thesis is to find out how successful 4 selected European cities (Munich, Zurich, Prague and Vienna) are in terms of rankings and measurable indicators and also from the perspective of the residents of the cities. The thesis used both secondary data, with the help of which the cities were analysed and compared, as well as primary data obtained through the own research which was used to explore in more detail the views and opinions of the residents of the cities towards the Smart City concept and the success of the implementation of this approach in the city. The results showed that although the residents want Smart City concept in their city, it is more important for them to solve the current problems. Moreover, according to the research, cities do not sufficiently accept their role as an economic, cultural and educational centre not only for the citizens of the city, but also for the citizens of the country and do not sufficiently involve all groups of people who study, work or live in the city.
