Communication with patients with tracheostomy

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce zjišťuje nejpoužívanější komunikační techniku, kterou ve své praxi využívají zdravotničtí pracovníci pro komunikaci s pacienty s tracheostomií. Dále se zaměřuje na největší komunikační bariéru vnímanou zdravotnickým pracovníkem při komunikaci s pacientem s tracheostomií. Věnuje se také zájmu zdravotnických pracovníků o elektronické pomůcky pro komunikaci s pacienty s tracheostomií. Metodicky je práce provedena jako dotazníkové šetření u 92 respondentů z řad zdravotnických pracovníků (všeobecné sestry, zdravotničtí záchranáři). Výsledky práce ukazují, že nejvíce používaným komunikačním prostředkem je u pacientů s tracheostomií stále tužka a papír, častá je také abecední tabulka. Jako největší bariéru v komunikaci u pacienta s tracheostomií vnímá nejvíce respondentů poruchu pacientova vědomí, na druhém místě pak je časová tíseň. Většina respondentů by na pracovišti uvítala dostupnost elektronických pomůcek pro komunikaci s tracheostomovaným pacientem.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to establish which communication technique is the one used most widely for patient-nurse communication with a tracheostomy patient. At the same time it also attempts to determine which communication barriers are percieved as the most serious by the health care providers dealing with tracheostomy patients. The thesis also monitors the interest of the health care providers in electronic devices that could facilitate communication with a tracheostomy patient. Questionnaires were used in the study with 92 non-physician health care providers (nurses and paramedics) responding. The results of the study show that a pencil with a piece of paper remains the most widely used means of communication with a tracheostomy patients, alphabet sheets are also widely available. Alteration of patients´ mental status is percieved as the major communication barrier by the largest number of study participants, followed by time pressure. Most respondents would welcome electronic devices to aid communication with a tracheostomied patient.
