Comparative anylysis of women s and men s lifestyle magazines. Picture and reflection of alternative identities

Abstract:

Práce si klade za cíl přiblížit prezentace alternativních identit – maskulinity a feminity tak, jak je předkládají současné lifestylové časopisy pro muže a pro ženy. V textu je pozornost věnována především samotnému představení jednotlivých prezentací a jejich následné komparaci. Komparace je doplněna také tzv. neutrálním textem v podobě časopisu sebe-prezentujícího se jako nikoliv prvoplánově ženský či mužský. Tento text slouží jako protipól získaných informací. Práce ve své teoretické části představuje základní pojmy, jako je např. identita, gender a média, které tvoří základ pro následné vlastní reflexe textů lifestylových časopisů. V závěrečné části je pouze částečně potvrzen původní předpoklad, že prezentace normativní feminity a maskulinity se v obou sledovaných médiích výrazně odlišují. Výsledkem práce je zjištění, že ačkoli lifestylové časopisy prezentují na první pohled několik alternativních identit, jsou si tyto identity natolik blízké, že se v konečném důsledku jedná o jednu normativní prezentovanou identitu, a to jak ženskou, tak mužskou.

Abstract:

The study makes a merit of alternative identities presentation - both of masculinity and muliebrity in a way present lifestyle magazines are showing them. The attention is paid mainly to introduction of single presentations and their subsequent comparison. The comparison is supplemented by so-called neutral text of magazine representing neither itself as neither female nor male focused. This text performs as an antipole to gained information. The theoretical part of the study is introducing basic terminology as e.g. identity, gender, media which frame a base for (underlie) resulting own reflection of lifestyle magazines' texts. In the closing part of the study is partially confirmed original premise, normative muliebrity's and masculinity's presentation significantly differs in both of the watched media. Result of the study is a fact, that even if lifestyle magazines present themselves as several identities representing and at the first sight it is so, all those identities are so similar to each other in final consequence we could talk about one representing normative identity both of male and female.
