Development of the Czechoslovak textile industry in the period 1918–1928 with a focus on the cotton industry and flax industry

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na vývoj textilního průmyslu, konkrétně odvětví bavlnářského a lnářského na území Československé republiky v letech 1918–1928. Jejím cílem je ověřit pravdivost hypotézy, že státní zásahy měly na zmiňovaný průmysl negativní dopad. Teoretická část nastiňuje vývoj textilnictví na území českých zemí do roku 1918, zároveň podrobněji popisuje problematiku státních zásahů a vývoj zahraničního obchodu. Část praktická nabízí k nahlédnutí rozbor procesů asimilace jednotlivých zkoumaných odvětví v letech 1918–1928 a následnou analýzu získaných dat. Tato do určité míry hovoří o negativních tendencích, které lze v určitých směrech popsat jakožto průmysl brzdící, zároveň ovšem implicitně poukazující na trendy pozitivní. Zde nelze opomenout rychlé zotavení textilnické aktivity utlumené válečnými snahami či protekcionistickou politiku vykonávanou nad domácími dílnami lnářskými. Celý výzkum vede k zamítnutí hypotézy o škodlivosti zásahů státního aparátu do adaptujícího se průmyslu, neboť následkem oněch zásahů vzniká převis pozitiv nad negativy.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the development of the textile industry, specifically the cotton and flax industry in the Czechoslovak Republic during the years 1918-1928. Its aim is to verify the veracity of the hypothesis that state interventions had a negative impact on the mentioned industry. The theoretical part outlines the development of the textile industry in the Czech lands until 1918, at the same time describing in more detail the issue of state intervention and the development of foreign trade. The practical part offers an insight into the analysis of the assimilation processes of individual researched industries in the years 1918-1928 and the subsequent analysis of the data obtained. To some extent, this speaks of negative tendencies, which in some respects can be described as a slowing industry, but at the same time implicitly pointing to some positive trends. The rapid recovery of textile activity dampened by the war effort, or the protectionist policy pursued over domestic flax workshops cannot be overlooked here. The whole research leads to the rejection of the hypothesis about the harmfulness of the state apparatus's interventions in the adapting industry, because as a result of those interventions there is an excess of positives over negatives.
