Comparison of the Composition Techniques in the String Quartets by Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá analýzou 2 smyčcových kvartetů: Joseph Haydn: Smyčcový kvartet op. 74 no. 3 'Jezdec' a Ludwig van Beethoven: Smyčcový kvartet op. 132 no. 15. Jejím cílem je vytvořit srovnání těchto dvou kvartetů. Text popisující tato díla je doplněn partiturou s podrobnými analytickými poznámkami a tím nabízí náhled na chápání formy, harmonie, frázové struktury a interakce mezi jednotlivými nástroji v dílech uvedených autorů. Analýza metodologicky vychází z práce Williama Caplina, zároveň upozorňuje na interakce mezi nástroji na základě studie Mary Parker.

Abstract:

This work deals with the analysis of 2 string quartets: Joseph Haydn: String Quartet op. 74 no. 3 'The Rider' and Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet Op. 132 no. 15. Its aim is to make a comparison between the two quartets. The text describing these works is supplemented by a score with detailed analytical notes and thus offers an insight into the understanding of form, harmony, phrase structure and interaction between individual instruments in the works of these authors. The analysis is methodologically based on the work of William Caplin, while drawing attention to the interactions between the instruments based on the study by Mara Parker.
