Czech illustrators in the Père Castor editions

Abstract:

The master thesis provides the information about the lives of two Czech artists Jaroslav Zdrůbecký (1907-1991) and Rudolf Jarůšek (1902-1983) and about their work for French publisher Paul Faucher (1898-1967) in 1930s. The thesis reveals especially the information obtained from the research in French archives in Meuzac and from the narration of witness Danna Ottová. The thesis introduces briefly Paul Faucher and his edition for children Père Castor. Then thesis concentrates on two artists, who passed, because of their physic handicap, their childhood in Jedlička and Bakule institut, where they had got the personal experience with the Progressive education and the educational methods of František Bakule (1877-1957). But mainly, it describes their collaboration on children’s albums of Père Castor and analyzes the text and the images of every album. The thesis brings also the complete album’s list created by Czech authors during the period of French-Czech collaboration (1933-1972).

Diplomová práce přináší informace o životech dvou českých umělců, Jaroslava Zdrůbeckého (1907-1991) a Rudolfa Jarůška (1902-1983) a o jejich spolupráci s francouzským nakladatelem Paulem Faucherem (1898-1967), která se odehrávala ve 30. letech 20. století. Diplomová práce vychází především z informací získaných ve francouzských archivech v Meuzaku a z vyprávění pamětnice Danny Ottové. Po krátkém představení Paula Fauchera a jeho ediční řady Père Castor se práce zaměřuje na dva umělce, kteří měli osobní zkušenost s reformní pedagogikou a metodami Františka Bakule (1898-1967), protože jakožto handicapovaní prožili dětství v Jedličkově a Bakulově ústavu. Především se práce věnuje jejich spolupráci na albech pro děti Père Castor a rozebírá každé jimi ilustrované album po jeho textové a obrazové stránce. Diplomová práce přináší také kompletní seznam alb vytvořených různými českými autory během česko-francouzské spolupráce mezi lety 1933 a 1972.
