Strategies in the translation of humor based on cultural references in the book "Manolito Gafotas" by Elvira Lindo

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the Czech translation of the children's book "Manolito Gafotas" (2020) by Elvira Lindo. It specifically focuses on the translation of humorous situations, grounded in cultural references, which appear abundantly in the book. The work is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The first, the theoretical part, deals with children's literature, its characteristics, the author Elvira Lindo, and lastly, the book "Manolito Gafotas" (2020) itself. A separate chapter is also dedicated to translation techniques and strategies. In the second, the practical part, an analysis of selected humorous situations based on cultural references and their translation from Spanish to Czech is carried out. These situations are analyzed in terms of the translation techniques that were used.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá českým překladem dětské knihy „Manolito Gafotas” (2020) od Elviry Lindo. Konkrétně se zaměřuje na překlad humorných situací, založených na kulturních odkazech, které se v knize hojně objevují. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. První, teoretická část, se věnuje dětské literatuře a jejím vlastnostem, autorce Elviře Lindo a v neposlední řadě samotné knize „Manolito Gafotas“ (2020). Samostatná kapitola je věnovaná také překladatelským technikám a strategiím. V druhé, praktické části, je provedena analýza vybraných humorných situací založených na kulturních odkazech a jejich překladu ze španělštiny do češtiny. Tyto situace jsou analyzovány z hlediska použitých překladatelských technik.
