How coping strategies and pain perception are related: looking into subjectively experienced pain in relation to coping strategies in adult patients with oncological and inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřila na problematiku copingových strategií u osob se zánětlivým a onkologickým onemocněním gastrointestinálního systému. Konkrétně se práce zabývala teoriemi stresu a copingu. Téma copingu bylo rozšířeno o studie týkající se souvislostí mezi copingem a osobností, emocemi, optimismem a depresivitou. Studie proběhla na chirurgické klinice Fakultní nemocnice Brno. U pacientů se zánětlivým a onkologickým onemocněním gastrointestinálního systému sledujeme bolestivé pooperační stavy. Studie si kladla za cíl identifikovat souvislost mezi typem copingových strategií a mírou bolesti u těchto pacientů. Copingové strategie byly měřeny dotazníkem SVF-78. Míra bolesti byla zjišťována vizuálně-analogovou škálou. Sběr dat probíhal ve spolupráci s personálem chirurgické kliniky. Studie byla pilotem do problematiky vztahu copingu a bolesti. Vztah mezi copingem a pooperační bolestí se nepodařilo potvrdit. Jedním z možných vysvětlení může být velikost vzorku.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focused on the issue of coping strategies in people with inflammatory and oncological diseases of the gastrointestinal system. Specifically, this thesis dealt with theories of stress and coping. The topic of coping was extended to include studies on the relationship between coping and personality, emotions, optimism and depressive symptoms. The study took place at the surgical clinic of the University Hospital Brno. In patients with inflammatory and oncological diseases of the gastrointestinal system, we can often identify painful postoperative conditions. The study aimed to identify the relationship between the type of coping strategies and the degree of pain in these patients. Coping strategies were measured by the SVF-78 Questionnaire. The degree of pain was measured by a Visual-Analogue Scale. Data collection took place in cooperation with the staff of the surgical clinic. The study was a pilot into the relationship between coping and pain. The relationship between coping and postoperative pain has not been confirmed. One possible explanation for this fact might be the sample size.
