Abstract:

V souvislosti s hodnocením dynamiky výkonnosti podniků se současný výzkum velmi často zaměřuje na hodnocení dopadů spolupráce mezi organizacemi, zejména v případě inovačních aktivit a projektů. Jednou z forem spolupráce se zaměřením na inovace je firemní podnikání (Corporate Venturing – CV). Zkoumání dopadů CV je stále důležitější. Počet autorů, kteří analyzují CV s ohledem na výběr partnera nebo měření výkonnosti po ukončení projektu firemního podnikání, se v posledních letech neustále zvyšuje. Naproti tomu tento výzkum se snaží zaplnit významnou mezeru ve výzkumu CV. I když je všeobecně uznáváno, že spolupráce mezi společnostmi a start-upy může mít význ-amné dopady na inovativnost společnosti, jen velmi málo teoreticky založeného a em-pirického výzkumu se vyrovnává s tím, jak lze spolupráci na projektu firemního pod-nikání řídit. Tento výzkum přispívá k literatuře vývojem nástroje pro řízení pro hod-nocení výkonnosti CV během fáze spolupráce. Na základě rešerše literatury týkající se potenciálních ukazatelů a rámců měření výkonnosti je vytvořen vyvážený přehled výkonnostních metrik (BSC) pro hodnocení výkonnosti CV. Soubor šesti ukazatelů vytváří základ pro rozhodování o tom, zda CV funguje podle očekávání, a tedy zda je CV ekonomicky přínosný. Výzkum čerpá z „principal agent theory“, jejímž prostřednictvím vysvětluje potřebu takového nástroje řízení. Za účelem empirického testování sady ukazatelů byly shromážděny primární údaje o hodnocení výkonnosti CV v automobilovém průmyslu. Údaje byly shromažďovány především prostřednictvím případových studií. Jsou analyzovány pomocí statistické metody analýzy hlavních složek. Výsledky snížily vedly k redukci 31 teoreticky a em-piricky identifikovaných možných opatření na šest ukazatelů, které jsou nejrelevant-nější pro vyvození závěru o výkonnosti CV během spolupráce subjektů. Tato disertační práce přispívá k literatuře v oblasti firemního podnikání a měření výkon-nosti na obecné úrovni. Zjištění mají zásadní praktické důsledky pro manažera CV tím, že poskytují nástroj řízení a soubor ukazatelů pro hodnocení výkonnosti CV během fáze spolupráce s cílem rozhodnout o jeho ekonomické výhodnosti.

Abstract:

In the context of assessing the dynamics of business performance, current research very often focusses on evaluating the effects of cooperations between organizations, especially in the case of innovation activities and projects. One form of cooperation with focus on innovation is represented by corporate venturing (CV). Investigating the impacts of CV is becoming increasingly important. The number of authors analysing CV in the light of partner selection or performance measurement after the corporate venturing project (CVP) is terminated steadily increased over the last years. In contrast, this research attempts to fill a significant gap in the research of CV. Even though it has been widely acknowledged that collaborations between corporates and start-ups can have significant implications for a corporate’s innovativeness, only very few theory-based and empirical research copes with how CVP collaborations can be managed during the collaboration. This research contributes to literature by developing a management tool to evaluate CVP performance during the collaboration phase. Building on a literature review regarding potential indicators and performance meas-urement frameworks, a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) for CVP performance evaluation during the collaboration phase is developed. A set of six indicators builds the basis for deciding whether a CVP is performing as expect and thus whether the CVP is eco-nomically beneficial. The research draws on the principal agent theory in order to un-derstand the need for such a management tool. In order to test the set of indicators empirically, primary data on CVP performance evaluation during the collaboration in the automotive industry was collected. The data was mainly collected through case studies. It was analysed by applying the statistical method of principal component analysis. The results reduced the compilation of 31 theoretically and empirically identified potential measures to six indicators which are most relevant to draw a conclusion on CVP performance during the collaboration. This dissertation contributes to the literature in the area of corporate venturing and performance measurement on a general level. The findings have crucial practical im-plications for CVP manager through providing a management tool and a set of indica-tors to evaluate CVP performance during the collaboration phase in order to decide about the economic advantageousness.
