Evaluation of the Senior Citizen´s Quality of Life with Incontinence

Abstract:

ABSTRAKT Cíl: Cílem diplomové práce je zjistit kvalitu života seniorů s inkontinencí v jednotlivých oblastech a dále pak zjistit souvislost mezi kvalitou života a věkem, mírou obtíží, rodinným stavem a počtem dětí a vybranými sociodemografickými charakteristikami. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 80 seniorů z vybraného Domova pro seniory v Olomouci. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 70 žen a 10 mužů od věku 65 let až 96 a více. Sběr dat byl prováděn pomocí dvou dotazníků King's Health Questionnaire a Over Bladder Questionnaire. První uvedený dotazník hodnotil současný stav v jednotlivých doménách, do kterých byla zahrnuta fyzická, sociální aktivita, mezilidské vztahy, emoce a vliv potíží na spánek a celkovou únavu. Dotazníky byly doplněny 6 demografickými otázkami a cílené dotazy se týkají pohlaví, věku, dosaženého nejvyššího vzdělání, rodinného stavu, počtu dětí a délky pobytu v sociálním zařízení. Druhý dotazník byl zaměřen na čtyři okruhy. Dotazník KHQ byl využit k hodnocení kvality života v devíti doménách pomocí kalkulovaného skóre. Dotazník OAB-q vyhodnotil vliv kvality života v pěti doménách. Sběr dat probíhal květen až říjen 2020. Výsledky: Z výsledků výzkumného šetření vyplývá, že senioři mladší 85 let mají horší kvalitu života podmíněnou inkontinencí než senioři starší 85 let. Dále bylo zjištěno, že senioři, kteří mají větší počet dětí, měli horší kvalitu života v doméně emoce. Ve srovnání rodinných vztahů mezi seniory, kteří jsou rozvedený/á a druhou skupinou seniorů ovdovělý/á, bylo zjištěno, že rozvedení senioři hodnotí svůj celkový zdravotní stav hůře než ovdovělí. Nejhorší kvalita života s nejvyšším skórem byla zjištěna v doméně KHQ dopady inkontinence. V dotazníku OAB-q byla zjištěna nejhorší kvalita v oblasti symptomy obtěžování. Závěr: Závěrem lze tedy říci, že vnímání celkové kvality života i celkového zdravotního stavu je podmíněno věkem, mírou obtíží, rodinným stavem, počtem dětí.

Abstract:

ABSTRACT Goal: The thesis aims to determine the quality of life in seniors suffering from incontinence in individual areas of life, The thesis also describes existing corelations between quality of life and the respondents' age, the extent of symptoms, marital status and the number of children as well as selected sociodemographic characteristics. Methodology: The population consisted of 80 seniors living in a selected retirement home in Olomouc. The population consisted of 70 women and 10 men aged from 65 to 96 years. The data was collected through two questionnaires King's Health Questionnaire, and the Over Bladder Questionnaire. The first mentioned questionnaire assessed the present state of individual domains, that included physical and social activity, human relationships, emotions and the impact of health issues upon sleep quality and overall tiredness. The questionnaires also incorporated six demographic questions inquiring of sex, age, education, marital status the number of children and the length of respondents' stay at the retirement home. The other questionnaire focussed on four areas. The KHQ questionnaire was used to assess the quality of life in nine domains using a calculated score. The OAB-q questionnaire assessed quality of life in five domains. The data was collected from October through May 2020. Results: The results of the research have shown that the seniors under 85 years of age reported worse quality of life compared to the seniors aged 85 or older with respect to incontinence. The research also shows that with the increase of the number of children the seniors reported lower quality of life in the emotional domain. In comparison of family relations between seniors self-reported as divorced and the other group self-reported as widowed the divorced seniors assess their health as worse in comparison with the widowed group. The worst quality of life reported by the highest score was determined in the KHQ domain of incontinence consequences. The OAB-q questionnaire determined the worst quality of life within the inconvenience symptoms domain. Conclusion: It is possible to conclude that self-reported overall quality of life and health is determined by age, the seriousness of symptoms, marital status, and the number of children.
