Growth response of beech in forest stands of the city of Domažlice

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá sledováním tloušťkového přírůstu resp. objemových změn kmenů buku lesního (Fagus sylvatica L.) v období klimatických změn, konkrétně tedy v době, kdy dochází ke značnému úbytku srážek a zvyšování teploty. Výzkum probíhal ve vybraných mladých porostech na majetku města Domažlice v nadmořské výšce 500-530 metrů a vnadmořské výšce 870 metrů. Pomocí mechanických dendrometrů byla sledována změna obvodu kmene a následně byl stanoven tloušťkový přírůst za vegetační období roku 2021. Pozorovaní jedinci byli rozděleni do dvou skupin, a to na jedince se zavlčeným a nezavlčeným kmenem. Kromě pozorování tloušťkových změn kmenů byl sledován také nástup rašení pupenů. Z výsledků vyplývá, že tloušťkový přírůst kmene během vegetačního období nebyl jednoznačně větší u jedinců s nezavlčeným kmenem, kteří nejsou pravděpodobně tolik stresováni suchem. Hypotéza, že jedinci buku, kteří mají zavlčené kmeny, reagují na stres suchem transformací koruny a budou mít menší tloušťkový přírůst, se nepotvrdila. Rašení a následné olistění probíhalo o 2-3 dny dříve u jedinců s nezavlčeným kmenem.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the monitoring of diameter increment (volume changes) of beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) trunks during the period of climate change, specifically at a time when there is a significant decrease in precipitation and an increase in temperature. The research was carried out in selected young forest stands on the property of the city of Domažlice at an altitude of 500-530 meters and an altitude of 870 meters. Using mechanical dendrometers, the change in the circumference of the trunk was monitored and subsequently, the diameter increment of the vegetation period of 2021 was determined. The observed individuals were divided into two groups, individuals with branched and non-branched trunks. In addition to observing diameter changes of trunks, the onset of bud sprouting was also monitored. The results show that the diameter increment of the trunk during the growing season was not unequivocally greater in individuals with a non-branched trunk who are probably not so stressed by drought. The hypothesis that individuals of beech who have branched trunks respond to drought stress by crown transformation and will have smaller diameter increment was not confirmed. The sprouting and subsequent foliage took place 2-3 days earlier in individuals with a non-branched trunk.
