Comparison of the system of legal possession of firearms in the Czech Republic and selected North American countries

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na komparaci systémů legálního držení palných zbraní v České republice, Texasu, Kalifornii a Kanadě. Cílem bylo analyzovat a popsat legislativu a normativy těchto států upravující legální držení palných zbraní napříč historií vedoucí k poskytnutí uceleného přehledu o systémech jejich legálního držení a vlastnictví v těchto státech v současnosti, jejich vzájemnou komparaci a určení restriktivních limitů těchto způsobů pro současné vlastníky palných zbraní. V úvodní části se práce zaměřuje na podrobný popis historie držení palných zbraní v těchto státech od doby, kdy zbraně začaly být legislativně kontrolovány až po současnost. Následně je v této práci vytvořena stručná analýza současných způsobů držení palných zbraní, zákonů, které s touto problematikou souvisejí a jejich vzájemná komparace doplněna o SWOT analýzu, která se zaměřuje na výhody a možné nevýhody přísných zákonů upravujících držení zbraní.

Abstract:

This work focuses on a comparison of legal firearms possession systems in the Czech Republic, Texas, California and Canada. The goal was to analyze and describe the legislation and standards of these states governing the legal possession of firearms across history leading to providing a comprehensive overview of the systems of legal possession and ownership in these states today, comparing them to each other and identifying the restrictive limits of these methods for current firearms owners. In the introductory section, the thesis focuses on a detailed description of the history of firearms ownership in these states from the time firearms began to be legislatively controlled to the present. Subsequently, this thesis creates a brief analysis of current methods of firearms possession, the laws related to this issue, and how they compare to each other, supplemented by a SWOT analysis that focuses on the advantages and potential disadvantages of strict laws regulating gun ownership.
