Digitocene as a neologism and as a curatorial and educational strategy

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje neologismu digitocén, jenž je užíván kurátory magisterského programu Da. Digital Art na Dálněvýchodní federální univerzitě ve Vladivostoku v Rusku. Vzhledem k novosti pojmu zatím existuje jen omezené množství zdrojů odkazujících k jeho významu, navíc, jejich autory jsou především tvůrci tohoto neologismu. Kladu si za cíl zmapovat okolnosti a důvody vzniku tohoto pojmu, charakterizovat ho a popsat jak je aplikován jeho tvůrci v rámci vzdělávací činnosti a kurátorské praxe realizované na umělecké škole. Zároveň mne bude zajímat vztah mezi digitocénem a na první pohled příbuzným pojmem antropocén, případně dalšími příbuznými pojmy, které by mohly přispět k pochopení konceptuálního podhoubí neologismu. Potřebné informace budou získány s ohledem na charakter výzkumného záměru prostřednictvím rešerše zdrojů a hloubkových rozhovorů s kurátory, studenty a absolventy DVFU. Při výzkumu primárních zdrojů využiji znalost ruského jazyka, v němž je publikována většina informací. Bakalářská práce si klade za cíl rozšířit poznání o lokální novomediální scéně se zaměřením na Rusko a zároveň může obohatit teoretický diskurz umění nových médií o nový pojem.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the neologism digitocene, which is used by the curators of the master's program Da. Digital Art at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok, Russia. Due to the novelty of the term, so far there are only a limited number of sources referring to its meaning, moreover, their authors are mainly the creators of this neologism. It aims to map out the circumstances and reasons for the emergence of this term, characterize it and describe how it is applied by its creators in the educational activities and curatorial practice implemented at the art school. At the same time, I will be interested in the relationship between the digitocene and the seemingly related term anthropocene, or other related terms, which could contribute to the understanding of the concept of neologism. The necessary information will be obtained with regard to the nature of the research plan through a search of sources and in-depth interviews with curators, students and graduates of FEFU. For researching primary sources, I will use my knowledge of the russian language in which most information is published. The bachelor's thesis aims to expand knowledge about the local new media scene with a focus on Russia and at the same time can enrich the theoretical discourse of new media art with a new term.
