Educational aspirations of adolescents in the context of single - parent family

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá souvislostí mezi rodinným uspořádáním dospívajícího a jeho vzdělávacími cíli. Rovněž se soustřeďuje na testování vztahu mezi vzdělávacími cíli a dalšími faktory na straně rodiny a dítěte a následně srovnání skupin dětí z úplných a neúplných rodiny v těchto proměnných. V teoretické části představuje výzkumná zjištění a poznatky z praxe, týkající se dopadů rozvodu a následné výchovy jedním rodičem, zde konkrétně osamělou matkou, na vybrané oblasti psychosociálního vývoje dítěte. Zvláštní kapitola je pak věnována vzdělávacím cílům, faktorům, jež je ovlivňují, a výsledkům dosavadních výzkumů vzdělávacích cílů dětí z neúplných rodin. Empirická část se věnuje testování pěti hypotéz. Podle první hypotézy mají děti z neúplných rodin nižší vzdělávací cíle než děti žijící v úplných rodinách. Použitý chí-kvadrát (x² = 2,795 ˂ M krit při df=3 a p=0,42) a Cramerovo V=0,14 nepotvrdily existenci vztahu mezi úplností/neúplností rodiny a výší vzdělávacích cílů dospívajících. Pomocí regresní analýzy ověřuje práce dále předpoklad o vlivu sebehodnocení dítěte, úrovně vzdělání dosažené matkou a otcem, zaangažovanosti rodičů na vzdělání dítěte a spokojenosti dítěte se vztahy s rodiči na výši jeho vzdělávacích cílů. Statisticky významný vztah se prokázal pouze u proměnných „sebehodnocení dítěte,“ „zaangažovanost rodičů“ a „roky vzdělání otce,“ a to na 5% hladině statistické významnosti. Poslední tři hypotézy se věnují srovnání dětí z úplných a neúplných rodin v proměnných sebehodnocení dítěte, spokojenost se vztahy s rodiči a zaangažovanost rodičů na vzdělání dítěte. K testování těchto hypotéz byly použity t-testy, F-testy a Cohenovo d ke zjištění síly vztahu mezi proměnnými. Použité statistiky ukázaly statisticky nevýznamné rozdíly mezi dětmi z úplných a neúplných rodin v proměnných „sebehodnocení“ a „spokojenost se vztahem s rodiči“ a existenci minimálního vztahu každé z těchto proměnných k úplnosti/neúplnosti rodiny. Výjimku tvořilo srovnání dětí z úplných a neúplných rodin v subškále „emoční inhibovanost“ v Dotazníku sebehodnocení dítěte, v níž vykazovaly děti z neúplných rodin významně vyšší emoční inhibovanost než děti z rodin úplných. U poslední testované proměnné, „zaangažovanosti rodičů na vzdělávacím procesu dětí“ se ukázala statisticky významně menší zaangažovanost rodičů dětí z neúplných rodin. Cohenovo d=0,81 vypovídá o existenci silného vztahu mezi těmito proměnnými. Ke sběru dat byly v práci použity dva dotazníky – pro účely výzkumu konstruovaný dotazník na vzdělávací cíle a standardizovaný Rohnerův Dotazník sebehodnocení dítěte. Členy výzkumného souboru byli žáci a žákyně devátých tříd šesti brněnských základních škol. Data byla analyzována od 151 respondentů (32 dospívajících vychovávaných osamělou matkou a 119 dětí z úplných rodin), u druhé hypotézy od 170 respondentů bez ohledu na jejich rodinné uspořádání.

Abstract:

The paper is focused on relation between family structure and educational aspirations of adolescents. It´s focused also on testing of relation between educational aspirations and another factors on the side of family and the child and then on comparision of groups of children from complete and divorced family in these factors. In the first part, the author presents research findings and evidences from practice, which concern the impacts of divorce and subsequent nurturing by the only parent, in this concrete case by mother, on the selected areas of psycho-social development of children. The particular chapter is focused on the educational aspirations, the factors, which influence them, and on the research findings of the eduactional aspirations of children from incomplete families. The empirical part is focused on the testing of five hypotheses. According to the first one, children from incomplete families have lower educational aspirations than children from intact families. The author used chi-square (x² = 2,795 ˂ M crit, df=3, p=0,42) and Cramer´s V=0,14, which didn´t confirm the existence of the relation between complete/incomplete family and the educational aspirations amount of adolescents. Then, the regression analysis was used to testing the hypothesis about the ifluence ot the children´s self-esteem, the mother´s and father´s educational level, parent´s involvement in child´s aducation and the child´s satisfaction with the relations with his parents on his educational aspirations amount. Tha analysis showed the statistically significant relation only between educational aspirations and the child´s self-esteem, parent´s involvement and father´s educational level. The last tree hypotheses compare children from complete and incomplete families in the variable „children´s self-esteem,“ and the „child´s satisfaction with the relations with his parents“ and „parent´s involvement in child´s education.“ Used t-tests and F-tests didn´t show statistically significant differences between children from complete and incomplete families in the variables „children´s self-esteem“ and „child´s satisfaction with the relations with his parents.“ The analysis showed statistically significant difference between groups in the variable „emotional inhibition,“ on part of The questionnaire of child´s self-esteem“ – children from incomplete families showed lower emotional inhibition than children from complete families. The statistically significant lower was also the parent´s involvement in child´s education in incomplete families. Cohen´s d=0,81 says, that there´s the strong relation between these variables. The author used two questionnaires to collect the datas – own questionnaire of the educational aspirations and Rohner´s Questionnaire of child´s self-esteem. The respondents were the pupils of ninth grade of six basic schools in Brno. The datas were analysed from 151 respondents (32 from incomplete families and 119 from complete families) and from 170 respondent in the second hypothesis.
