Dance - movement therapy with seniors with dementia in a context of residential care

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce bylo v rámci flexibilní výzkumné strategie zjistit, jaký vliv vnímají terapeuti tanečně-pohybového přístupu ve své práci se specifickou skupinou klientů – seniorů s demencí v kontextu rezidenční péče. Teoretická část se věnuje charakteristice syndromu demence, zejména Alzheimerovy choroby, tanečně-pohybové terapii a podobě rezidenční péče pro seniory s demencí u nás. Výzkumná část byla tvořena kvalitativní analýzou (otevřené a tematické kódování, kostra analytického příběhu) 13 polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s terapeuty ze zařízení dlouhodobé péče, kteří využívají tanečně-pohybový přístup se seniory s demencí. Výsledkem bylo nalezení deseti kategorií, které reprezentují terapeuty vnímaný vliv toho přístupu. Součástí závěrečné diskuse byla také dodatečná zjištění a úvaha nad podobou tanečně-pohybové terapie s těmito klienty u nás. Diskutovány byly také limity studie a možná další výzkumná zaměření.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis was to explore within the frame of flexible research strategy what effect is perceived by therapists using dance-movement approach in their work with specific group of clients – seniors with dementia in context of residential care. The theoretical part is focused on characteristics of dementia syndrome, especially Alzheimer’s disease, dance-movement therapy and on the form of residential care for elderly people in our country. The practical part consists of qualitative analysis (open and thematic coding, frame of analytical story) of 13 semi-structured interviews with therapists from long-term care facilities who use dance-movement approach with seniors with dementia. The result was finding ten categories which represent effect of the dance therapy perceived by therapists. Additional findings and consideration of the form of dance-movement therapy with seniors with dementia in our country were part of the final discussion. Limits of the study and possible further research were discussed as well.
