Expulsion as Narrated Memory: On the representation of cultural forms of memory in the novels "Gewitterblumen" (Isolde Heyne) and "Engste Heimat" (Erica Pedretti)

Abstract:

This thesis explores strategies of remembering in the literature of displaced German authors. Two novels by German authors displaced from the former Czechoslovakia after 1945 were analysed and compared. It was investigated what strategies of remembering or forgetting the authors use and what influence they have on the authenticity of the story. The thesis also focuses on the comparison of linear and fragmentary narratives in relation to authenticity. The selected authors use memory locations, displacement, fragments, associations or certain specific words as the main recollection strategies as "triggers" of memories.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá zkoumání strategií vzpomínání v literatuře odsunutých německých autorů. V dané problematice byly analyzovány a porovnávány dva romány německých autorek odsunutých z územý bývalého Československa po roce 1945. Bylo zkoumáno, jaké strategie vzpomínání, případně zapomínání autorky používají a jaký mají vliv na autenticitu příběhu. Práce se také soustředí na komparaci lineárního a fragmentálního vyprávění ve vztahu k autentcitě. Jako hlavní vzpomínkové strategie vybrané autorky využívají místa paměti, vytěsnění, fragmenty, asociace či určitá konkrétní slova jakožto "spouštěče" vzpomínek.
