Analysis of the Concept of "Home as a Place" in Contemporary Social Science Theory with Focus on the Role of Materiality, Routines and Rituals

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje konceptu „domova jako místa“ a objasňuje roli materiality, rutin a rituálů při tvorbě domova. V práci je nejdříve provázána potřeba člověka bydlet s tvorbou domova a následně vysvětleno, co znamená pojímat „domov jako místo“. Dále se soustředí na jednu z možných vrstev domova, a tou je obydlí, v němž jedinec žije. Je rozebrán význam materiality při tvorbě domova ztělesněného obydlím a je poukázáno na důležitou roli vnitřního řádu, který vytváří jednu z hranic mezi obydlím a domovem. Součástí vnitřního řádu jsou rutiny a rituály, jimž je věnována pozornost nejdříve v obecné rovině domova a následně je skrz vnitřní řád charakterizován domov rodiny s dětmi. Při zkoumání procesu tvorby domova je také poukazováno na vliv sociálního a kulturního kontextu

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis talks of "home as a place" and clears the role of materiality, routines and rituals during the home-making. At first, the human's need to dwell with home-making is proven and then it explains what it means to understand "home as a place". Next it focuses on one of the possible layers of home and that is the house, in which a person lives. The importance of materiality during the home-making embodied by the house and the important role of the inner order that creates one of the differences between a house and a home is pointed out. Routines and rituals are a part of the inner order and they are discussed first in the common level, followed by a characterisation of a family home with children through the inner order. An influence of social and cultural context while examining the home-making is also noted.
