Taming of the famous comedian. Changes and continuities in the star persona of Vlasta Burian after the year 1950.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje poválečné kariéře Vlasty Buriana prostřednictvím metodologie star studies. Mnohé praktiky, na kterých herec vystavěl svou hvězdnou slávu, již v 50. letech nebyly přípustné. Burianova poválečná kariéra tak prošla silnou transformací, ovlivněnou kulturně-politickými změnami, zároveň ale také čerpala z některých praktik hercova nejslavnějšího meziválečného období (1930–1942). Jelikož byl Burian především celebrita a divadelní komik a tyto aspekty se silně odrážely nejen v jeho star vehicle filmografii, ale také v poválečných filmech, je tato práce pevně ukotvena jak v hercově nejslavnějším meziválečném období, tak v jeho divadelní kariéře. Právě divadelní dráha položila základy Burianově filmografii, poněvadž star vehicle snímky byly velmi často natáčeny podle jeho úspěšných divadelních her.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis describes the post-war career of Vlasta Burian through the star studies methodology. Many of the practices on which the actor built his stardom in the 1950s were no longer permissible. Burian's post-war career thus underwent a strong transformation, influenced by cultural and political changes, but also drew on some practices of the actor's most famous interwar period (1930–1942). Burian was primarily a celebrity and a theatrical comedian, and these aspects were strongly reflected not only in his star vehicle filmography, furthermore in post-war films. Therefore, the thesis is embedded in the actor's most famous interwar period and his theatrical comedian career. It was the theatrical career that laid the foundations for Burian's filmography, as star vehicle films were very often shot based on his successful comedian plays.
