The Representation of Female Characters in Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas de Machado de Assis.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the examination of the representation of female characters in the novel "Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas" by Machado de Assis. The aim of the thesis is to explore different aspects of the representation of female characters in this work and their relationship to the main character, Brás Cubas. The thesis focuses on how female characters are portrayed in the areas of power, sexuality, family relationships and social status. Literary interpretation and feminist theory are used to study the complex characters of the female characters. The results of this analysis provide deeper insight into Machado's presentation and interpretation of female characters and their influence on the narrative and the main theme of the novel.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na zkoumání reprezentace ženských postav v románu "Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas" od Machada de Assise. Cílem práce je prozkoumat různé aspekty zobrazování ženských postav v tomto díle a jejich vztah k hlavní postavě, Brásovi Cubasovi. Práce se soustředí na to, jak jsou ženské postavy vykresleny v oblasti moci, sexuality, rodinných vztahů a společenského postavení. Používá se literární interpretace a feministická teorie ke studiu komplexních charakterů ženských postav. Výsledky této analýzy poskytují hlubší vhled do Machadovy prezentace a interpretace ženských postav a jejich vliv na vyprávění a hlavní téma románu.
