Possible Scenarios of Strategic Cooperation between Great Britain and the USA after Brexit

Abstract:

Autorka na základě široké škály primárních a sekundárních zdrojů analyzuje budoucí vývoj britsko-amerických vztahů po Brexitu. Ze začátku se zkoumá, jaká je dosavadní pozice Velké Británie po odchodu z EU a jaký je politický a ekonomický stav. Dále práce zjišťuje priority americké a britské zahraniční politiky. Práce zkoumá, jak navázání spolupráce Británie s Čínou a s indicko-pacifickým regionem ovlivní strategickou spolupráci Velké Británie a USA. Jelikož se jedná o potenciální spolupráci v budoucnu, v této práci je využita předpovědní metoda a scenáristika. Následně je sestavena sada ze dvou scénářů: 1) Velká Británie a Čína, 2) Velká Británie a indicko-pacifický region. V rámci každého scénáře jsou identifikované výhody a nevýhody, které pro Velkou Británii ze spolupráce vyplývají. Na závěr autorka zkoumá, jak každý scénář ovlivní britsko-americké vztahy a spolupráci do budoucna.

Abstract:

Based on a wide range of primary and secondary sources, the author analyzes the future development of Anglo-American relations after Brexit. In the beginning author identifies the current political and economic position of Great Britain after leaving the EU. In the next step, the thesis discovers the priority of American and British foreign policy. The thesis studies current British orientation towards possible partnership with China and the Indo-Pacific region. The following question remains: “How new British foreign orientation will influence strategic cooperation between Great Britain and the USA?”. The thesis works with potential collaboration in the future; therefore, the prediction method and scenario building are used as a theoretical base of this work. Subsequently, a set of two scenarios is compiled: 1) Great Britain and China, 2) Great Britain and the Indo-Pacific region. Within each scenario, the key advantages and disadvantages for the UK are identified. The conclusion of this thesis is how each scenario will influence Anglo-American relations and their cooperation in the future.
