Obesity as a civilization disease

Abstract:

Prevalence obezity s veškerými jejími důsledky vzrostla na celém světě na nepřijatelnou úroveň jak u mužů, tak u žen. Na vzniku obezity se podílí celá řada faktorů, ať už genetické, behaviorální, tak i faktory prostředí. Obézní lidé často trpí stigmatizací jak ze strany laické veřejnosti, tak i ze stran zdravotnických profesionálů. Obezita přispívá ke zkrácení života a ke vzniku mnoha chronických onemocnění. To vše je ovlivnitelné pouhou redukcí hmotnosti. Empirická část diplomové práce je zaměřená na získání informací o rizikových oblastech životního stylu, které vedou ke vzniku tohoto civilizačního onemocnění. Zásadní bylo získat informace o tom, zdali dochází u Čechů k nárůstu BMI, zdali podléhají cravingu, jak se vyrovnávají se stresem. Informace byly získány pomocí elektronicky rozesílaného dotazníku. Výzkumem bylo zjištěno, že muži i ženy podléhají cravingu stejně, a že je jistá souvislost mezi cravingem a velikostí obvodu pasu. Zároveň se zdá, že dochází i k nárůstu BMI vlivem lockdownu.

Abstract:

The prevalence of obesity has risen to unacceptable levels in both men and women worldwide with resultant hazardous health implications. Obesity development is influenced by genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors, and both the general public and health professionals stigmatize those who suffer from the disease. Obesity contributes to a shortened life span and many chronic diseases, all of which can be reduced by weight loss. The goal of the empirical part was to get information about lifestyle risk factors, which can lead to becoming obese. The main goal was to obtain information if BMI is getting higher in Czech people if they are craving and how do they cope with the stress. Information was obtained from an electronically disseminated questionnaire. In the research was found, that the craving level is the same in women and in men, and there is a statistically significant relationship between craving and rising waist circumference. Moreover, it seems today´s obesity increase is caused by the lockdown.
