Orphans, orphanages and poorhouses in Pilsen

Abstract:

Práce je analýzou dostupných pramenů péče o potřebné v Plzni v průběhu konce 18. a počátku 19. století do první světové války. Ústředním tématem jsou sirotci, méně podrobněji je zmíněna chudina. Jen drobnou zmínkou i invalidní, kteří v Plzni pobývali. Jsou zohledněny nadace, fondy a spolky vzniklé svépomocí či za přispění města Plzně. Dále zdravotní péče a její zásluhy. Práce se věnuje zejména zobrazením úhlu pohledu na tyto strádající a snaží se, aby čtenář pochopil, že na tuto vrstvu obyvatel nelze nahlížet jen jako na čísla v tabulkách. Naráží na důležitý společenský problém ztráty morálky, obecného chaosu a zneužívání dětí k žebrotě. Dále také to, že v této době žebrání nebylo hanbou, ale běžným přivýdělkem lidí, kteří byli odkázáni jen na sezónní práci. Jednotlivé kapitoly jsou obohaceny o různé příběhy z kartonů Archivu města Plzně.

Abstract:

This work is an analysis of available sources which describe the social care in Pilsen during the end of 18th century and in the beginning of 19th century till the 1 WW. It is focused mainly on orphans, less on poor ones and disabled people who lived in Pilsen. We will focuse also on foundations, funds and associations which were arised self-help or with assist of the town Pilsen. Another issue of this work was health care for the Poor. I also mentioned Remedial Schools and bases thanks to which they work. This work is mainly focused on point of view at these suffering people and is trying to make the reader understand that it is impossible to describe them just as numbers in listings. It is reflecting an important social problem of morality loss, chaos at general and abuse of children to begging. The next thing important to say is, that century ago, there was no shame for begging at all such it is nowadays. It was common way to earn money for people who were left just for seasonal work. Each chapter is enriched of stories from The Cardboards from the Archives of the City of Pilsen.
