Jediism as a new form of religion?

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bude popsat a analyzovat fenomén tzv. jediismu a odpovědět na otázku, zdali lze tento fenomén považovat za jednu z nových forem náboženství. První část práce představí samotný fenomén jediismu - jeho historii, základní rysy a jeho postavení v současných společnostech. Druhá část práce se soustředí na otázku definice náboženství v sociálních vědách a odborné diskuse s ní spojené. Třetí část práce se zaměří na shrnutí nejdůležitějších sociologických poznatků, které vyplynuly z dosavadního zkoumání jediismu. V poslední části práce budou dostupné poznatky o jediismu konfrontovány s různými sociologickými koncepty náboženství a formulována odpověď na výchozí otázku celé práce.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe and analyze the phenomenon of so-called jediism and to answer the question whether this phenomenon can be considered as one of the new forms of religion. The first part of the thesis will introduce the phenomenon of jediism itself - its history, basic features and its position in contemporary societies. The second part of the thesis will focus on the question of the definition of religion in the social sciences and the scholarly debates related to it. The third part of the thesis will focus on a summary of the most important sociological findings that have emerged from the research on jediism so far. In the last part of the thesis, the available knowledge on jediism will be confronted with various sociological conceptions of religion and an answer to the initial question of the whole thesis will be formulated.
