Quality of Life in Patient with Ventricular Septal Defect

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na hodnocení kvalitů života pacienta s defektem komorového septa.Práce kombinuje teoretický přehled dostupné odborné literatury s kazuistikou pacienta, u kterého byl defekt komorového septa diagnostikován a chirurgicky korigován v raném věku. Kazuistika přibližuje jednotlivé fáze jeho života – dětství, dospívání a dospělost – a zaměřuje se na výzvy, kterým pacient čelil v oblasti zdravotní péče, fyzické aktivity, psychického nastavení a sociálního začlenění. Výsledky ukazují, že i po úspěšné operaci může mít defekt komorového septa dlouhodobé dopady na psychickou pohodu. Pacient vnímal zvýšenou úzkost, vyhýbal se fyzické aktivitě a narážel na profesní omezení, přestože jeho zdravotní stav umožňoval plnohodnotné fungování. Srovnání s dostupnými studiemi potvrzuje, že problémem často není jen samotné onemocnění, ale také nedostatečná informovanost pacientů a jejich rodin, chybějící psychologická podpora a společenské stigma spojené s vrozenou srdeční vadou. Závěry práce poukazují na nutnost multidisciplinárního přístupu k péči o pacienty s touto diagnózou. Důraz by měl být kladen na edukaci, podporu pohybové aktivity, psychologickou pomoc a dlouhodobé sledování v dospělosti. Tyto faktory mohou výrazně přispět ke zlepšení kvality života a sociální integrace pacienta.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on assessing the quality of life in patient with a ventricular septal defect. The thesis combines a theoretical overview of the available literature with a case study of a patient who was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect and underwent surgical correction in early childhood. The case study outlines different stages of the patient’s life – from childhood through adolescence to adulthood – and describes challenges related to healthcare, physical activity, psychological well-being, and social inclusion. The results show that even after successful surgery, a ventricular septal defect can have long-term impacts on psychological well-being. The patient experienced increased anxiety, avoided physical activity, and faced professional limitations despite a generally favorable health condition. A comparison with available studies confirms that the main issue is often not the heart defect itself, but rather the lack of information provided to patients and their families, insufficient psychological support, and persistent societal stigma surrounding congenital heart defects. The conclusions of the thesis highlight the need for a multidisciplinary approach in the care of patients with this diagnosis. Emphasis should be placed on patient education, encouragement of physical activity, psychological support, and long-term follow-up into adulthood. Improvements in these areas could significantly contribute to the patient’s quality of life and social integration.
