Transition of primary school pupils from the fourth to the fifth grade (case study)

Abstract:

Předložená práce se zabývá fenoménem tranzice žáků ze čtvrtého do pátého ročníku základní školy. Práce je členěna podle klasického scénáře na teoretickou a empirickou část. Doménou teoretické části je vymezení stěžejních charakteristik vážících se k ústřednímu tématu přechodu, přičemž je pozornost věnovaná popisu specifických forem přechodu spolu s determinujícími faktory, riziky a možnostmi jeho usnadnění. Navazující empirická část práce předkládá deskripci toho, jakým způsobem vnímají přechod samotní žáci spolu s jejich třídními učitelkami. Diplomová práce je kvalitativním výzkumným šetřením. Technikami sběru dat se staly analýza slohových prací, hloubkové rozhovory s vyučujícími, zúčastněné pozorování a ohniskové rozhovory se žáky. V návaznosti na teoretická východiska tato případová studie interpretuje vnímání tranzice ve třech časových liniích. V první části je popsána situace před přechodem žáků, v druhé části je pozornost zaměřena na situaci těsně po přechodu žáků, třetí a poslední část poskytuje výsledky tranzice po téměř půl roce stráveném v pátém ročníku.

Abstract:

This thesis pursues a phenomenon of pupil transition from the fourth to the fifth grade of primary school. The thesis is divided according to the classic scenario between the theoretical and the empirical part. The domain of the theoretical part is the description of the main characteristics tied to the pivotal topic of the transition and the main focus lies on the description of specific forms of the transition along with the determining factors, risks and possibilities of its easing.The following empirical part presents a description of how the transition is viewed by the pupils and their teachers. This diploma thesis is a qualitative research survey. Depth interviews with the teachers, analysis of essays, involved observation and focus groups were the data collection techniques. In connection with the theoretical data, this thesis interprets the perception of the transition in three different time-frames. The first one describes the situation before the transition, the second one focuses on the situation right after the transition and the last one concerns with the final outcomes of the transition after a half year spent in the fifth grade.
