The language of politics in Italy and Matteo Salvini on Twitter

Abstract:

The master's thesis deals with the Political Language and the discourse of the "First" and the "Second" Republic with the particular attention on Twitter that is one of the communication instruments becoming more and more popular among Italian politicians.There is an analysis of the discourse of the politician Matteo Salvini with the aim to understand what kind of techniques and tools he uses to communicate with the electorate. For this purpose, the syntactic structure is studied, and, from the point of the pragmatics, the types of the utterances and the left-dislocation are observed and analysed. There is also an analysis of some particularities of Twitter such as what kind of hashtags is used by Matteo Salvini, and which topics are the most frequent in his tweets.

Abstract:

La tesi specialistica si occupa del Linguaggio e del discorso politico della Prima e della Seconda Repubblica con particolare attenzione verso uno degli strumenti sempre più in uso nella comunicazione politica italiana, cioè Twitter. Viene esposta l’analisi del discorso del politico Matteo Salvini su Twitter per comprendere di quali tecniche e mezzi si serva il leader leghista per comunicare con l’elettorato. A tal fine vengono osservati la struttura sintattica del discorso e, dal punto di vista della pragmatica, i tipi di enunciati e la dislocazione a sinistra, nonché le specificità di Twitter come i tipi di hashtag o i temi ricorrenti.
