Human alienation as a consequence of a modern capitalistic society in the philosophy of Erich Fromm

Abstract:

Ve své diplomové práci na téma Odcizení člověka jakožto důsledek moderní kapitalistické společnosti ve filozofii E. Fromma se pokusím podat objektivně ucelený obraz dané problematiky, jež se skrývá již pod samotným názvem. V první části této práce se zaměřím na dobový intelektuální kontext, ve kterém své bádání E. Fromm začínal, tzn. Frankfurtské školy, a na souvislost tohoto směru s marxismem, fenomenologií, psychoanalýzou a filozofií. Ve druhé části pojednám o obecné charakteristice moderní společnosti a jevech, které s sebou tato společnost přináší a které jsou předmětem Frommova zájmu. Součást této kapitoly tak bude tvořit samotná analýza filozofického základu Frommova myšlení, který tvoří předně pojednání o obrazu člověka formovaného v moderní společnosti, pojmy jako jsou svoboda, únik před ní, rozum, odcizení, dále ontologické kategorie vlastnění a bytí, ztráta vůle, odpovědnost, to vše z perspektivy rozvinuté konzumní společnosti. V závěrečné fázi pohovořím o Frommově alternativě humanismu, ve které vidí současně i cestu možného řešení a v němž zásadní roli hraje solidarita a umění milovat, jakožto základní stavební kameny toho opět být za jedno se světem a neztratit přitom sám sebe. Zároveň prověřím, zda je tento humanismus skutečnou renesancí člověka jakožto člověka a na základě získaných informací předložím vlastní kritickou reflexi Frommových názorů a zamyslím se nad tím, zda je možné jeho myšlenky a teorie aplikovat na současnost.

Abstract:

In my thesis, the title of which is Human alienation as a consequence of a modern capitalistic society in the philosophy of Erich Fromm, I try to succeed to present in an objective way a complete reflection of the given issue that is already hidden in the title itself. In the first part of this thesis I focus on the intellectual period context in which E. Fromm started his research, I mean Frankfurt School, and I focus on the link among this stream and Marxism, phenomenology, psychoanalysis and philosophy. In the second part I deal with general attributes of a modern society and features appearing together with it, and which are the subject of the Fromm´s interest. The analysis of the philosophical principle of Fromm´s thinking is also in that part. It deals with the picture of a human being formed by the modern society, with terms like freedom, escaping from it, wisdom, alienation, with ontological categories of possession and being, the lost of will, responsibility, and all of them from the point of view of the advanced consumer society. In the last part I deal with the Fromm´s alternative of humanism, as he sees the way of the possible solution in it, and in which the basic role is played by solidarity and ability to love. They are meant to be the foundation stones of being in touch with the world and not to lose the man himself. At the same time I try to verify whether this humanism is a real renaissance of the man as a man, and based on this information I present my own critical reflection to Fromm´s opinion, and I think about and consider if it is possible to apply his thoughts and theory to the present days.
