Using authentic materials for impovement listening comprehension of lower secondary school pupils

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá možností zkvalitňování poslechových dovedností u žáků anglického jazyka na 2. stupni základní školy. Cílem této práce je dokázat, že častější využívání autentických poslechových materiálů má kladný vliv na poslechové dovednosti studentů. Teoretické část zdůrazňuje význam a důležitost rozvoje poslechových dovedností při studiu anglického jazyka. Je objasněn pojem autentický poslechový materiál a představeny výhody a nevýhody používání těchto materiálů při výuce cizích jazyků. V teoretické části je proveden empirický výzkum uskutečněný na 2. stupni základní školy. Výzkum probíhal pomocí dotazníkového průzkumu a experimentu. Dotazník zjišťoval zkušenosti studentů s poslechem autentických materiálů. Jak průzkum, tak experiment měl za cíl prokázat, že intenzivní používání autentických poslechových materiálů zlepšuje jejich poslechové dovednosti.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the possibility of improving listening skills of students of English at the lower secondary school. It proves that increased use of authentic listening materials has a positive effect on students' listening skills. The theoretical part highlights the importance of the development of listening skills during English studies. It also clarifies the concept of authentic listening materials as well as discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the use of such materials. The practical part presents the results of the research conducted at the lower secondary school. The research was carried out through the survey and the experiment. The survey found out students' experiences with listening to authentic materials. Both the survey and the experiment proved the hypothesis that intensive use of authentic listening materials can improve their listening skills.
