Electromagnetic Waves in a Gravitational Field

Abstract:

Ve své práci se autor zabývá rozšířením oboru platnosti klasické geometrické optiky i na případ zakřiveného podkladového prostoročasu zkušebního elektromagnetického pole. Zejména je řešena problematika formulace vhodných veličin v rámci obecné teorie relativity, kde z důvodu matematických obtíží není obecně možné mezi jednotlivými reprezentacemi optických veličin volně přecházet. K takovým výsledkům práce patří zjištění laplasiánu eikonálu souřadnicové reprezentace pomocí veličin reprezentace impulzové, a dále stanovení vzájemných vztahů paprsků, vlnoploch a intenzit vln v obecném případě. Problematika je finálně rozřešena konstrukcí aberační formulace kovariantní optiky, která poskytuje obecný rozklad na optické informace na strukturu závislou pouze na metrice pozadí a na soubor konstant, který obecně popíše libovolnou vlnoplochu. Všechny veličiny jsou demonstrovány na několika konkrétních aplikacích, z nejdůležitějších jmenujme nalezení nové třídy řešení Einsteinových rovnic, která reprodukuje v rámci gravitačního čočkování ideální optický instrument (Maxwellovo rybí oko) a dále aplikaci stanovení ohniskové vzdálenosti a aberačních koeficientů pro případ ideálně tekutého ostrovního řešení.

Abstract:

In his work, author is dealing with the classical geometrical optics extension into curved background spacetimes of the testing electro-magnetic field. Of highest interest is the problem of formulating the suitable quantities within the scope of general relativity, where thanks to mathematical obstructions, it is generally not possible to switch between the various representations of usual optical quantities. One of the results of this kind is the construction of the Laplacean of coordinate representation eikonal using only the momentum representation quantities, and also determination of mutual relationships between rays, wavefronts, and intensities along the wavefronts in general case. The question is finally solved by introducing a construction of aberration formulation of covariant optics, which provides with the decomposition of the optical situation depiction to structure dependent on background metric only and a set of constants, that describe arbitrary wavefront therein. All the quantities are further illustrated on several particular applications; as the most important ones let us state finding the new class of Einstein's equations solutions, that reproduce within gravitational lensing an ideal optical instrument (in Maxwell's sense). Also there is the application that finds the position of the focus of the perfect fluid cluster and its aberration structure.
