Men in female profession - gender identity construction of men professionally caring for the elderly.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na systémové a individuální motivy a bariéry pro výkon pečující profese u mužů. Faktory, které významně ovlivnily rozhodnutí mužů stát se profesními pečovateli, byly identifikovány na základě analýzy životních příběhů respondentů. Hlavní výzkumnou oblastí se stala genderová identita, tj. její konstrukce, v rámci které se práce zabývá vyjednáváním maskulinní pozice a sebepojetím mužů v genderově netypickém povolání, které jsou výsledkem nastavení současného genderového řádu společnosti. V tomto kontextu se práce zaměřuje na genderovou výchovu v rámci rodiny a školy, jejím vlivem na volbu povolání. Dále práce představuje základní koncepty trhu práce, jako je genderová segregace trhu práce a s ní spojený fenomén tokenismu. Analýzou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů klientů a kolegyň respondentů byly zjištěny výhody přítomnosti mužů v této profesi, které paradoxně udržují a reprodukují genderové stereotypy ve společnosti.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on systemic and individual motives and barriers for the performance of the care profession of men. Factors that significantly influenced men's decision to become professional careavers were identified based on ananalysis of respondents' lifestories. The main research of the area has become the gender identity, its construction, in which the thesis deals with the negotiation of masculine position and the self-confinement of men in the gender atypical profession that are there sult of petting the current gender order of the society. In this context, the thesis focuses on gender education within the family and school, its influence on career choices. Further more the thesis presents the basic koncepts of the labor market, such as the gender segregation of the labor market and the associated phenomen of tokenism. By analyzing the semi-structured interview of clients and colleagues of respondents, the advantages of the presence of men in this profession, which paradoxically maintain and reproduce gender stereotypes in society, have been identified.
