Syntactic, Semantic and Morphological Features of Thematic and Rhematic Elements

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se věnuje aktuálnímu členění větnému. Hlavním záměrem bylo zanalyzovat tematické a rematické prvky z pohledu syntaxe, sémantiky a morfologie. Materiál, na kterém byla prováděna analýza, byl úryvek ze třetí kapitoly knihy Harry Potter a princ dvojí krve. V teoretické části práce byly prezentovány hlavní myšlenky týkající se aktuálního členění větného spolu s vysvětlením základní terminologie, stejně jako elementární úvod k syntaxi, sémantice a morfologii spolu s představením daných kritérií pro analýzu. V praktické části byl analyzován literární text tak, že byly nejdříve izolovány konkrétní větné členy a následně roztřízeny do tematické, tranzitní a rematické vrstvy. Pak byly prvky z tematické a rematické vrstvy uspořádány do tabulky a analyzovány z pohledu preverbální a postverbální pozice slov, abstraktnosti a konkrétnosti a rozdělení na autosémantická a synsémantická slova. Jednotlivé vrstvy byly pomocí tabulek a grafů porovnány.

Abstract:

This thesis is a study dedicated to the theory of FSP. The main aim was to analyse the thematic and the rhematic elements from the point of view of syntax, semantics and morphology. The material provided for the analysis was the extract of the third chapter of the book Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In the theoretical part of the work, the main concepts related to the theory of FSP were presented, together with an explanation of the basic FSP terminology, as well as a fundamental introduction to syntax, semantics and morphology, explaining criteria chosen for the analysis. In the practical part, we carried out the FSP analysis of the given fiction, isolating particular sentence elements and classifying them into the thematic, transitional and rhematic layers. Elements from the thematic and rhematic layer were further organised into a table and analysed from the point of view of pre- and post-verbal position, abstractness and concreteness, and a division into grammatical and lexical words. Finally, these two layers were compared with help of graphs and tables.
