The role of sport in urban regeneration

Abstract:

Úpadek průmyslových měst, od druhé poloviny 20. století, byl z velké části důsledkem procesu deindustrializace, který se začal projevovat ve státech západní Evropy a Severní Ameriky. Pokles průmyslové výroby současně s poklesem pracovních míst, zvýšením míry nezaměstnanosti a celkové degradaci území vedlo místní samosprávy k plánování rozvojových strategií a k realizaci strategických regeneračních rámců. Jeden z možných impulzů regenerace byl od 80. let považován sport, neboli "sport-led regeneration". Sportem taženou regeneraci uplatnilo také staré průmyslové město Manchester ve Velké Británii, které prostřednictvím hostování mega sportovního eventu dokázalo změnit image města, vybudovat novou infrastrukturu, posílit místní ekonomiku, vytvořit nová pracovní místa a pomocí nově založené společnosti New East Manchester zregenerovat východní oblast města. Manchester se za posledních deset, patnáct let přiblížil k image živého, pulzujícího města, což by mohlo být z určité části přisuzováno právě Hrám Commonwealthu.

Abstract:

The decline of industrial cities, since the second half of the 20th century, was largely industrialization process, which began to show in the states of Western Europe and North America. The decline in industrial production together with a decline injobs, increasing unemployment and general land degradation has led local governments plan and implement strategies for developing strategic regeneration frameworks. One of the possible impulse regeneration at the eighties considered sport, or "sport-led regeneration". Sport drawn regeneration also applied an old industrial city of Manchester in Greater Britain, which by hosting the mega sporting event was able to change the image of the city, build new infrastructure, strangthen the local economy, create new jobs and by means of New East Manchester regeneration area east of the city. Manchester is over the last ten, fifteen years closer to the image of the living, pulsating city, which could be attributed to certain parts of the Commonweatlh Games, just.
