Digitalization of Life and Artificial Intelligence - Progress or Apocalypse?

Abstract:

Svět se nám v posledních letech mění před očima. 21. století bude stoletím, ve kterém digitalizace zasáhne většinu oblastí našeho života a umělá inteligence se stane realitou, nikoli jen oblíbeným námětem vědeckofantastických filmů. Jak nám ukázal rok 2020 tvrdě zasažený koronavirovou pandemií, digitalizace může pomoci zachovat kontinuitu činnosti úřadů, školství a dalších oborů. Umělá inteligence začíná pronikat do automobilového průmyslu, medicíny či marketingu a může do jisté míry snížit potřebu lidské práce ve výrobních halách či logistických centrech. Nabízí se však otázka, jestli využívání umělé inteligence a digitalizace v konečném důsledku nepovede k degradaci všeobecné inteligence člověka jako takového a jestli tyto nástroje nezpůsobí sociální separaci lidí v rozvinutých zemích. Cílem práce je zjistit, nakolik je dnešní člověk na tyto turbulentní změny připraven a jestli je vnímá pozitivně nebo jako hrozbu. Budu ověřovat hypotézu, že nejméně jsou na nástup digitálního věku připraveny starší věkové skupiny, zatímco mladší generace, která již de facto žije online, přijímá digitalizaci a umělou inteligenci jako běžnou součást života. Zároveň prokážu, že si většina lidí není vědoma toho, že umělá inteligence se již stala dominantním marketingovým nástrojem a formou individualizované reklamy ovlivňuje naše nákupní chování.

Abstract:

The world has been changing before our eyes in recent years. The 21st century will be a century in which digitization will affect most areas of our lives and artificial intelligence will become a reality, not just a popular subject in sci-fi movies. As the year 2020 hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic has shown us, digitization can help maintain business continuity of authorities, educational institutions, and other areas. Artificial intelligence has started to penetrate the automotive industry, healthcare, or marketing and, to certain extent, it may reduce the need for human work in production halls or logistics centres. However, the question arises as to whether the use of artificial intelligence and digitization will not ultimately lead to the degradation of the general intelligence of man as such and whether these tools will not cause the social separation of people in developed countries. The aim of this work is to find out how much today's people are prepared for these turbulent changes and whether they perceive them positively or as a threat. I will test the hypothesis that older age groups are the least prepared for the onset of the digital age, while the younger generation, which already de facto lives online, embraces digitization and artificial intelligence as a normal part of life. At the same time, I intend to demonstrate that most people are not aware that artificial intelligence has already become the dominant marketing tool and affects our shopping behaviour through individualized advertising.
