The use of AI tools for work with graphs

Abstract:

Předmětem bakalářské práce je využití nástrojů umělé inteligence, konkrétně grafových neuronových sítí (GNN), pro řešení úloh z diskrétní matematiky a teorie grafů. Práce se zabývá spojením tradičních výpočtů diskrétní matematiky s metodami hlubokého učení, což umožňuje zkoumat a vizualizovat grafy z jiného pohledu než jen pomocí exaktních výpočtů. Zpracování probíhalo formou tří experimentů v programovacím jazyce Python s využitím knihoven NetworkX a PyTorch Geometric. Během nich byly vygenerované datasety pro dané úlohy, vyzkoušeny deterministické algoritmy (Dijsktrův, Kruskalův) a natrénován třívrstvý model GNN pro specifické úlohy. Výsledky ukazují, že zatímco klasické algoritmy zaručují exaktní řešení, GNN vyniká v identifikaci globálních topologických vzorců, ale naráží na limity v rozlišování lokálně podobných struktur. Závěr práce potvrzuje, že ačkoliv model GNN u složitých úloh není stoprocentně spolehlivý a funguje spíše jako rychlá heuristika, jejich praktická implementace představuje užitečnou pomůcku do výuky diskrétní matematiky.

Abstract:

The subject of this bachelor's thesis is the use of artificial intelligence tools, specifically graph neural networks (GNNs), to solve problems in discrete mathematics and graph theory. The thesis explores the integration of traditional discrete mathematics computations with deep learning methods, which allows for the examination and visualization of graphs from a perspective other than that of exact calculations alone. The work was carried out in the form of three experiments in the Python programming language using the NetworkX and PyTorch Geometric libraries. During these experiments, datasets were generated for the given tasks, deterministic algorithms (Dijkstra's, Kruskal's) were tested, and a three-layer GNN model was trained for specific tasks. The results show that while classical algorithms guarantee exact solutions, GNN excels at identifying global topological patterns but encounters limitations in distinguishing locally similar structures. The conclusion of the thesis confirms that although the GNN model is not 100 % reliable for complex tasks and functions more as a fast heuristic, its practical implementation represents a useful tool for teaching discrete mathematics.
