The philosophy of Zen buddhism

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje zenovému buddhismu z filosofického úhlu pohledu a?analyzuje jeho filosofické aspekty. Představuje také základní historické a?paradigmatické okolnosti jeho vzniku a rovněž i osobu Buddhy jakožto zakladatele buddhismu. Dále je rozebírán odkaz a návaznost na předchozí mahájánovou buddhistickou tradici a její základní charakteristiky. Z filosofie se zaměřuje například na buddhistické pojetí prázdnoty (šúnjatá), nauku o buddhovské přirozenosti či?na?princip neduality. A nakonec se tato práce věnuje tématu iracionálních zenových paradoxů zvaných kóany, přičemž jsou zde analyzovány i konkrétní příklady.

Abstract:

This thesis is devoted towards the analysis of Zen Buddhism from the?philosophical point of view and studies its philosophical aspects. It also introduces the basic historical information and context of its creation as well as the Buddha himself as the founder of Buddhism. Moreover, there is an analysis of connections coming from the Mah?y?na tradition and its characteristics. In terms of philosophy the focus is for example on Buddhistic understanding of the concept of emptiness (ś?nyat?), the theory of buddha-nature or the principle of nonduality. Lastly, this thesis is working with the topic of irrational zen paradoxes called k?an, together with providing some specific examples.
