Study of the consolidation of powdered wall paintings using newly developed acrylic latexes with a bio-component. Restoration of the sgraffito with the scene "Hero in antique armor" at Litomyšl chateau.

Abstract:

První část diplomové práce se zabývá rešerší dostupných informací k problematice povrchové konsolidace nástěnných maleb a testováním konsolidačních účinků nově vyvinutých akrylátových latexů s biosložkou na zpráškovatělou barevnou vrstvu. Biokonsolidanty jsou porovnávány s akrylátovými latexy aktuálně dostupnými na trhu. Optické i mechanické vlastnosti konsolidantů byly testovány na zkušebním panelu v laboratorních podmínkách. Druhou část diplomové práce tvoří restaurátorská zpráva, která obsahuje restaurátorský, uměleckohistorický a přírodovědný průzkum k části renesanční sgrafitové výzdoby z 16. století, která nese název "Hrdina v antikizující zbroji". Sgrafito se nachází na severozápadní fasádě 2. nádvoří na zámku v Litomyšli. V této části práce je zdokumentován i restaurátorský zásah s chronologickým postupem restaurátorských prací provedených na výše zmíněném díle.

Abstract:

The first part of the thesis examines existing theoretical information regarding the consolidation of degraded wall paintings. The study continues with practical tests evaluating the effects of newly developed bio-based acrylic latexes on paint layers that have suffered from powdering. These consolidation agents are compared with synthetic acrylic latexes currently available on the market. The optical and mechanical properties of both groups of consolidation agents were tested on samples of degraded wall paintings under laboratory conditions. The second part of the thesis is in a form of the restoration report, which includes a restoration, art-historical and natural history survey of a part of the Renaissance sgraffito decoration from the 16th century, which has the title "Hero in antique armor". The sgraffito is located on the northwest facade of the 2nd courtyard of the castle in Litomyšl. This part also documented the restoration intervention with the chronological process of the restoration work carried out on the above-mentioned scene.
