The role of regional actors Russia and Turkey in resolving the frozen conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh since 2014

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to investigate the role of Russia and Turkey in resolving the frozen conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh since 2014. The thesis at the beginning defines important concepts as a frozen conflict or conflict resolution and describes a brief historical overview of the conflict evolution. The empirical part is focused on presentation of all activities of Turkey and Russia, related with the conflict since 2014. The first part presents Russia's conflict-related activities, dividing these activities into three spheres - political, economic and security sphere. The second part deals with Turkey and its activities towards conflict, again divided according to the respective spheres. The thesis concludes with the comparison of the activities of the both actors and with the confirmation or disapproval of the hypotheses defined at the beginning of the thesis, determining if the actors contribute or do not contribute on conflict resolution.

Abstract:

Cieľom práce je skúmanie aká je rola Ruska a Turecka v riešení zamrznutého konfliktu o Náhorný Karabach od roku 2014. Práca si na začiatku definuje potrebné koncepty ako zamrznutý konflikt či riešenie konfliktu a zobrazuje stručný historický prehľad vývoja samotného konfliktu o Náhorný Karabach. Empirická časť sa následne zameriava na zobrazenie všetkých aktivít Ruska a Turecka smerom ku konfliktu od spomínaného roku 2014. V prvej časti sa zaoberá aktivitami Ruska, pričom ich rozdeľuje do troch sfér - politickej, ekonomickej a bezpečnostnej. Druhá časť sa venuje Turecku a jeho krokmi smerom ku konfliktu, opäť rozdelených podľa príslušných sfér. V závere prichádza ku komparácií aktivít oboch aktérov a následnému potvrdeniu či vyvráteniu hypotéz, s cieľom zistenia či dané krajiny svojimi krokmi v priebehu posledných rokov prispievajú k riešeniu konfliktu a v akom rozsahu, alebo naopak k riešeniu konfliktu neprispievajú.
