Gender stereotypes from the perspective of children at primary school

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou genderu a především postojem dětí mladšího školního věku k genderovým stereotypům. Teoretická část je věnována definici genderu a souvisejících pojmů. Dále jsou zde představeny základní biologické a psychosociální teorie genderu. Pozornost je zaměřena také na vývoj genderové identity u dětí. V závěru jsou uvedeny nejčastější genderové stereotypy, včetně konkrétních příkladů, jak tyto stereotypy ovlivňují životy mnoha žen a mužů. Praktická část je zaměřena na vlastní průzkum, ve kterém je hlavním cílem zjistit, jak děti na 1. stupni základní školy vnímají stereotypy spojené s genderem. Jsou zde prezentovány výsledky dotazníkového šetření včetně následné analýzy a interpretace získaných dat.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the concept of gender and particularly with early school age children's attitude towards gender stereotypes. The theoretical part includes the definition of gender and related terms. Furthermore, basic biological and psychosocial theories of gender are examined there. There is also focus on the development of gender identity in childhood. The most frequent gender stereotypes are presented in the end, including particular examples how these stereotypes influence the life of many women and men. The practical part is focused on the research itself. The main aim of the research is to find out how early school age children perceive gender stereotypes. Questionnaire outcomes are presented in this part with further analysis and interpretation of the data obtained.
