Pregnant women's awareness of the damaging effects of alcohol and nicotine during pregnancy

Abstract:

Úvod: Tématem bakalářské práce je "Informovanost těhotných žen o škodlivosti alkoholu a nikotinu v průběhu těhotenství". Alkohol i nikotin jsou v naší zemi velice rozšířené. Mnoho těhotných nezná rizika a škodlivé účinky, které alkohol i nikotin způsobuje nejen jim samotným ale především jejich nenarozeným dětem. Ženy, které přestanou s kouřením či pitím alkoholu před graviditou, zvyšují své šance na oplodnění a snižují rizika komplikací v těhotenství. Prevencí by měla být včasná a dostatečná edukace a informovanost. Cíl práce: Cílem bakalářské práce je přispět k řešení problematiky informovanosti těhotných žen o škodlivosti alkoholu a nikotinu v těhotenství. Hlavním cílem empirické části bylo posoudit stav informovanosti těhotných žen o škodlivosti alkoholu a nikotinu v těhotenství. Dále bylo stanoveno několik dílčích cílů, mezi které patří zjištění, zda jsou ženy dostatečně edukovány v gynekologických ambulancích, postoj žen ke kouření, zda těhotné ženy konzumují alkohol, zda si myslí, že je o škodlivosti alkoholu a nikotinu v těhotenství veřejnost dostatečně informována a jak je možné informovanost rozšířit. Metodika: Metodou výzkumného šetření byl nestandardizovaný dotazník vlastní konstrukce v tištěné i online podobě. Dotazník byl distribuován pomocí sociálních sítí, webových stránek, gynekologických ambulancí a jedné nemocnice. Dotazník tvořilo celkem 31 otázek, převážně uzavřených. Zkoumaným souborem byly těhotné ženy bez ohledu na věk a paritu. Průzkumné šetření probíhalo od 5. března až do 10. dubna 2022 a celkem se ho zúčastnilo 177 žen. Výsledky: Analýza získaných dat probíhala formou popisné statistiky. Šetření ukázalo, že většina žen má základní přehled o škodlivosti alkoholu a nikotinu v těhotenství, ovšem podrobnější informace jim chybí. Z výsledků také vyplývá, že edukace a zájem gynekologů a porodních asistentek v rámci prenatální péče je velmi nedostačující. Závěr: Užívání alkoholu a nikotinu v průběhu těhotenství nese velké množství rizik. Vzhledem k tomu, že jsou tyto látky velmi rozšířené, je nutné dbát na dostatečnou informovanost. Edukační proces by měl probíhat především v gynekologických ambulancích. Většina žen by ocenila, kdyby byly v čekárnách letáčky s informacemi, které by si mohly přečíst.

Abstract:

Introduction: The topic of the bachelor thesis is "Awareness of pregnant women about the harmfulness of alcohol and nicotine during pregnancy," Alcohol and nicotine are very common in our country. Many pregnant women are unaware of the risks and harmful effects that alcohol and nicotine cause not only to themselves but especially to their unborn children. Women who stop smoking or drinking alcohol before pregnancy increase their chances of fertilization and reduce the risk of pregnancy complications. Prevention should include timely and adequate education and awareness. Aim of the thesis: The aim of the bachelor thesis is to contribute to the solution of the problem of pregnant women's lack of awareness about the dangers of alcohol and nicotine during pregnancy. The empirical part's main goal was to assess pregnant women's awareness of the dangers of alcohol and nicotine during pregnancy. Several subobjectives have also been established, such as whether women are adequately educated in gynecology clinics, women's attitudes toward smoking, whether pregnant women consume alcohol, and whether they believe the public is adequately informed about the threats of alcohol and nicotine during pregnancy. and the means by which awareness can be spread. Methodology: A non-standardized questionnaire of my own design, printed and online, was used for the research survey. The survey was disseminated via social media, websites, gynecology clinics, and one hospital. The survey had a total of 31 questions, the majority of which were closed. Pregnant women of all ages and parities were included in the study. A total of 177 women took part in the exploratory survey, which ran from March 5 to April 10, 2022. Results: Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data that was collected. Most women have a basic understanding of the harmful effects of alcohol and nicotine during pregnancy, according to the survey, but they lack more detailed information. The findings also show that gynecologists and midwives are under-educated and uninterested in prenatal care. Conclusion: Using alcohol or nicotine while pregnant carries plenty of risks. Due to the widespread nature of these substances, it is necessary to ensure that adequate information is available. The majority of the education should take place in gynecological clinics. The majority of women would appreciate it if there were informational leaflets in the waiting rooms.
