Mythological and human dimesion in Oresteia by Aischylos and in selected modern updating of this play

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá mytologickou a lidskou dimenzí v Aischylově trilogii Oresteia a jejích dvou moderních aktualizacích – v tragédii Mouchy Jeana-Paula Sartra a v trilogii Smutek sluší Elektře Eugena O’Neilla. První část se věnuje představení vývoje žánru tragédie. Ve druhé části jsou představeni autoři tragédií a v jednotlivých dílech je analyzována mytologická a lidská dimenze. Závěrečná část je věnována možnému využití poznatků získaných analýzou textů ve výuce literatury na středních školách.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on mythological and human dimension in Aeschylus’ trilogy The Oresteia and its two modern adaptations – The Flies by Jean-Paul Sartre and the Mourning Becomes Electra trilogy by Eugene O’Neill. The first part presents the evolution of the tragedy genre. In the second part there are presented the authors of the tragedies and the human and mythological dimensions are analysed. The final part of this thesis is dedicated to the possible use of findings in high school literature lessons.
