Abstract:

Práce popisuje za pomoci sekundárních zdrojů anglickou střední třídu a vytváří na základě konkrétních příkladů z šesti nejznámějších románů Jane Austenové relativně ucelený obraz této části společnosti. Jelikož v životě střední třídy stejně jako v románech Jane Austenové je mnoho témat, kterými je možné se zabývat, soustředí se tato práce pouze na některé z nich. Tři hlavní podkapitoly se zabývají pozicí žen, problematikou manželství a rodinou a dětmi. Na začátku jsou zmíněny romány Jane Austenové a její pozice ve světě literatury. Následuje kapitola, která se zabývá historickým a společenským pozadím ve Velké Británii na přelomu osmnáctého a devatenáctého století. Hlavní část celé práce je zaměřena na život střední třídy v době a díle Jane Austenové.

Abstract:

This work depicts, with the help of secondary sources, the eighteenth-century middle class and on the basis of concrete examples from Jane Austen’s six most famous novels creates relatively compact portrayal of this particular segment of the society. As there are a large number of topics in the middle class life as well as in Austen’s novels to be dealt with, the thesis focuses only on some of them. There are three main subchapters dealing with the position of women, issues of marriage and getting married and family and children. In the beginning Jane Austen’s novels and her position in the world of literature are mentioned. Secondly, there is a chapter dealing with the historical and social background in Great Britain at the turn of the eighteenth century. Finally, there is the main part of the whole thesis which focuses on the life of the middle class people in Jane Austen’s times and work.
