Physiotherapy in a Patient with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of physiotherapy in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The theoretical part thoroughly analyzes the neurobiological foundations of ALS, including the characteristics of this neurodegenerative disease, its incidence, etiopathogenesis, classification, clinical picture, diagnostic methods, and treatment approaches, including physiotherapy. The practical part of the work presents a case study of a female patient with ALS with a dominant bulbar syndrome, including medical history, kinesiological and neurological examination, assessment of functional status, rehabilitation by Vojta method, and rehabilitation plan. The practical part aims to assess the impact of the Vojta method on the patient's functional abilities. The work evaluates the dynamics of changes in functional abilities using the Barthel index and ALSFRS-R. It shows that physiotherapy in patients with ALS requires a high level of professional knowledge and skills. It emphasizes the importance of an individual approach to patients to achieve optimal rehabilitation outcomes.

Abstract:

Táto bakalárska práca sa zaoberá problematikou fyzioterapie u pacientov s amyotrofickou laterálnou sklerózou (ALS). V teoretickej časti sú podrobne analyzované neurobiologické základy ALS vrátane charakteristiky tohto neurodegeneratívneho ochorenia, jeho výskytu, etiopatogenézy, klasifikácie, klinického obrazu, diagnostických metód a liečebných prístupov, vrátane fyzioterapie. Praktická časť práce prezentuje kazuistiku pacientky s ALS s dominujúcim bulbárnym syndrómom, ktorá zahŕňa anamnézu, kineziologické a neurologické vyšetrenie, hodnotenie funkčného stavu, rehabilitáciu Vojtovou metódou a rehabilitačný plán. Cieľom praktickej časti je posúdenie vplyvu Vojtovej metódy na funkčné schopnosti pacientky. Práca sa zameriava na hodnotenie dynamiky zmien funkčných schopností pomocou Barthel indexu a ALSFRS-R. Ukazuje, že fyzioterapia u pacientov s ALS si vyžaduje vysokú úroveň odborných znalostí a zručností a zdôrazňuje význam individuálneho prístupu k pacientom pre dosiahnutie optimálnych výsledkov rehabilitácie.
