Analysis and Creation of Mathematical Lecture Notes (3D text)

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je pokusit se vytvořit návrh studijního textu: Matematického 3D textu. Ten by měl nabízet vysvětlení daného tématu na několika úrovních různé obtížnosti. Měl by také usnadnit samostudium, podněcovat k využití moderních technologií a k aktivnímu doplňování informaci z dalších zdrojů. Text je určen především pro samostudium, ale je možné jej použít i jako podklad pro hodinu vedenou učitelem. Studijní text dodržuje následující principy: Rozvíjí klíčové kompetence nejvíce žádané zaměstnavateli. Podporuje využití matematických studijních zdrojů dostupných z internetu. Zaměřuje se na široce využitelné téma derivací a diferenciálních rovnic. Je navržen ve vrstvách s různou obtížností výkladu, přičemž každá vrstva poskytuje ucelený pohled na dané téma. Matematický 3D text byl zrealizován a od května 2015 je k dispozici na adrese https://almamather.zcu.cz/Když\_chladne\_čaj\_(3Dtext). Je využíván studenty fakulty strojní jako dodatečný studijní zdroj. Jejich reakce a také reakce širší veřejnosti na tento text jsme shromáždili a okomentovali v poslední části této práce. Podle získané zpětné vazby je 3D text srozumitelný i bez větších předchozích znalostí. Většině respondentů se princip vrstev líbil, stejně jako praktická situace (chladnutí čaje), která posloužila jako model pro výklad. Kritizován byl na druhou stranu opakující se text a nedostatečné rozdělení vrstev do menších celků, což zhoršovalo orientaci v textu. Zaznamenali jsme návrhy na přidání obrázků, videí, odkazů na související témata a na rozšíření 3D textu do šířky (více témat a příkladů) i do hloubky (např. zahrnutím vlivu míchání lžičkou).

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to create a blueprint of study material: Mathematical 3D text. It should offer explanation of given topic on several different levels of difficulty. It should also facilitate self-learning, usage of modern technology and active search for additional information. The text is intended for individual work but it will be possible to use it in a lesson led by a teacher. The study material is created based on the following principles: It helps to promote the qualities that are the most desired by the employers. It recognizes the importance of other internet based mathematical websites and it encourages their usage. It focuses on a topic of wide practical usage - derivatives and differential equations. It is designed in layers, where each layer offers comprehensive view of the topic. The layers differ in the complexity of mathematical tools which were used. The Mathematical 3D text has been put into practice starting in May 2015. It can be found online at almamather.zcu.cz\footnote{https://almamather.zcu.cz/Když\_chladne\_čaj\_(3Dtext)}. It is used as additional resource for students of the faculty of Mechanical Engeneering of the University of West Bohemia. We gathered their reactions and also opinions of some members of public to the text. According to the reactions the resulting 3D text is understandable with little need of previous knowledge. The layer design has been appreciated by most as well as the simple practical situation (cooling of hot tea) which was used to demonstrate the mathematical principles. On the other hand the repetitivness of the text and lack of division into subsections within the layers were subject to some criticism. Further suggestions have been made to include more pictures, videos, hyperlinks to related topics and to progress deeper into the problem by adding e.g. the influence of mixing the tea with a teaspoon.
