Folktales of Lorraine: Specifics of Translation for Children

Abstract:

Diplomová práce má za cíl představit specifika překladu francouzské regionální lidové tvorby pro děti. Diplomová práce se skládá se z teoretické a praktické části. Teoretická část řeší tři hlavní problematiky:vymezení folkloru a jeho význam pro překlad, překlad dětské literatury a strategie překladu. Analýza lotrinských pohádek je provedena za pomoci překladových mřížek. Praktická část se věnuje především problematice překladu toponym, antroponym a citoslovcí. Zaměřujeme se také na fonetickou mřížku, která je obzvláště důležitá kvůli čtení nahlas, a stylistickou mřížku, v rámci níž pracujeme s individuálními styly postav a intonací.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to present the specifics of translation of French regional folktales for children. This thesis consists of theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with three main issues: folklore definition and its importance for translation, children's literature translation and translation strategies. The analysis of the folktales of Lorraine is carried out using a translation grids. The practical part is mostly dedicated to the issue of translation of toponyms, anthroponyms and interjections. We also pay attention to phonetic grid, which is particularly important for reading aloud, as well as to stylistic grid which involves working with individual character styles and intonation.
