Plastic waste handling, case study Ghana

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je seznámit čtenáře s metodami nakládání s plastovým materiálem v Ghanské republice skrz pohled a přístup místní komunity. V práci je vyhodnocováno povědomí obyvatel o vlivu plastového znečištění na lidské zdraví a životní prostředí. V teoretické části jsou čtenáři vysvětleny druhy odpadu, vlivy plastového znečištění na lidské zdraví, ekonomiku a životní prostředí. Dále jsou přiblíženy příčiny nárůstu plastového odpadu v Africe a popsány způsoby nakládání s odpadem. Praktická část se věnuje odpadovému hospodářství v Ghaně, kde budou porovnány statistiky odpadového hospodářství. Budou zde popsány kroky Ghanské vlády v reakci na plastové znečištění, přiblíženy organizace zabývající se sběrem odpadu a zahraniční iniciativy v oblasti boje proti plastovému znečištění. Vyhodnocení situace bylo provedeno za pomocí rozhovorů s místní komunitou, které čtenáři více objasní přístup obyvatelstva a důvody přetrvávajícího problému s plastovým znečištěním.

Abstract:

The objective of this bachelor‘s thesis is to acquaint readers with methods of handling plastic waste in the Republic of Ghana through the view and approach of the local community. The work evaluates the awareness of the population about the impact of plastic pollution on human health and the environment. The theoretical part explains to the readers the types of waste and the effect of plastic pollution on human health, the economy, and the environment. Furthermore, the causes of the increase in plastic waste in Africa are explained and ways of waste management are described. The practical part is devoted to waste management in Ghana, where statistics on waste management will be compared. The responsive actions of the Ghanaian government towards plastic pollution will be described, waste collecting organizations and international initiatives focused on plastic pollution will be introduced. The situation was assessed through interviews with the local community, which will make the readers more aware of the population’s approach and the reasons for the persistent problem with plastic waste.
