Diversity and ecology of caddisflies (Trichoptera) in springbrooks of the Western Carpathian spring fens

Abstract:

Úkolem této bakalářské práce bylo popsat složení taxocenóz chrostíků (Trichoptera) v pramenných stružkách slatinišť na území Západních Karpat a porovnat tyto výsledky s poznatky z podobných studií zabývajících se chrostíky pramenů. Pro účely srovnání byly v rešeršní části práce zpracovány studie zabývající se chrostíky pramenišť z různých oblastí Evropy (západní Evropa, Alpy a Jura, střední Evropa Fennoskandie). Bylo odebráno a zpracováno celkem 112 vzorků z 58 pramenných stružek z oblasti Vnitřních i Vnějších Západních Karpat v letech 2006 a 2010-2012 ve dvou sezónách (jaro, podzim). Na lokalitách byly měřeny fyzikální a chemické proměnné prostředí, koncentrace iontů a bylo odhadnuto složení substrátu. Data byla zpracována v programech Microsoft Excel, Canoco 5 a Statistica 12. Na lokalitách bylo nalezeno celkem 53 taxonů (určených převážně do druhu) chrostíků zastupujících 15 čeledí. Nejpočetnější a nejčetnějsí taxony utvářející společenstva studovaných pramenných stružek jsou druhy Beraea maurus, B. pullata, Ernodes articularis/vicinus (Beraeidae), Agapetus fuscipes (Glossosomatidae), Plectrocnemia conspersa (Polycentropodidae), Wormaldia occipitalis (Philopotamidae), Potamophylax nigricornis (Limnephilidae), Sericostoma personatum/schneiderii (Sericostomatidae) a Crunoecia irrorata (Lepidostomatidae). Druhově nejpočetnější čeledi jsou Limnephilidae a Rhyacophilidae. V souboru nalezených taxonů chrostíků dominují krenobionti a krenofilové, významně jsou zastoupeny i druhy lotické. Hlavními proměnnými prostředí ovlivňujícími složení společenstva chrostíků jsou hloubka vody a rychlost proudu. Oblastí nejpodobnější pramenným stružkám Západních Karpat z hlediska druhového složení chrostíků se jeví Západní Evropa a oblast Alpy a Jura, ve které bylo také nalezeno nejvíce druhů. Nejméně podobná a druhově nejchudší oblast je Fennoskandie.

Abstract:

The main aims of this thesis were to describe the composition of caddisflies assemblages (Trichoptera) in springbrooks of spring fens in the Western Carpathians and to compare obtained results with other studies dealing with caddisflies of springs. For this purpose, the first part of the thesis summarized data on caddisflies from studies focused on springs of the western Europe, Alps and Jura, central Europe and Fennoscandia. Altogether 112 samples were collected at 58 springbrooks of the Inner and the Outer Western Carpathians in two seasons (spring, autumn) in 2006 and 2010-2012. Physical and chemical environmental variables and concentrations of ionts were measured at studied sites. Substrate composition was estimated as well. Data was processed in Microsoft Excel, Canoco 5 and Statistica 12. In total, 53 taxa (determined mainly to species level) representing 15 families of caddisflies were found at studied springbrooks. The most abundant and frequent taxa were: Beraea maurus, B. pullata, Ernodes articularis/vicinus (Beraeidae), Agapetus fuscipes (Glossosomatidae), Plectrocnemia conspersa (Polycentropodidae), Wormaldia occipitalis (Philopotamidae), Potamophylax nigricornis (Limnephilidae), Sericostoma personatum/schneiderii (Sericostomatidae) and Crunoecia irrorata (Lepidostomatidae). The most species-rich families were Limnephilidae and Rhyacophilidae. Crenobiont and crenophilous caddisflies dominated in the total number of species recorded; lotic species were relatively numerous as well. Main environmental variables affecting the composition of caddisflies assemblages were current velocity and water depth. Springs of western Europe and Alps and Jura, which was the most species-rich region, appeared the most similar to the Western Carpathian springbrooks in caddisfly species recorded. The least similar and least species-rich region was Fennoscandia.
