Anotácia:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá využitím neuronových sítí při překladu vědeckých a technických textů z angličtiny do češtiny. Hlavním cílem této práce je zjistit, zda dokáže neuronová technologie dostát kvalitativním požadavkům, které jsou v současné době na překlad kladeny. Teoretická část práce prvně definuje vědecký a technický překlad jako samostatné disciplíny na základě unikátních lingvistických vlastností každé z nich. Dále pak vymezuje historické a technologické pozadí neuronového strojového překladu. Vý-zkumná část práce se zabývá konkrétními překlady textů, které poskytly neuronové pře-kladače Google Translate, Microsoft Bing Translator, DeepL Translate a Systran Transla-te. Samotná analýza se pak zaměřuje zejména na překlad terminologie, gramatické a formální chyby a také na stylistické aspekty přeložených textů. Výkon každého z neuronových překladačů je následně vyhodnocen a výsledky jsou zmíněny v závěru práce, jehož součástí je také pokus o odhad budoucí využitelnosti neuronových sítí při překladu vědeckých a technických textů.

Abstract:

This thesis investigates the use of neural machine translation in translating scientific and technical texts from English to Czech. The purpose is to find out whether the neural tech-nology can, completely or partly, meet the quality requirements called-for by the transla-tion industry. The theoretical framework of this thesis first defines the scientific and technical texts in terms of their distinctive linguistic features. Second, it provides readers with the historical and technical background of the neural translation technology. The analytical part of this thesis examines the translations of the selected sample texts pro-vided by four different neural translators, namely Google Translate, Microsoft Bing Translator, DeepL Translate, and Systran Translate. The analysis focuses on terminology translations, formal and grammatical issues, and stylistic aspects. Each of the neural translators is then evaluated based on its performance. The thesis concludes with the summary of the results and an attempt to predict the usability of the latest neural tech-nology in translation of scientific and technical texts.
