Presentation of passive structures in linguistic materials and selected English textbooks

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce porovnává prezentaci pasivních konstrukcí ve vybraných lingvistických manuálech (viz doporučená literatura) a v řadě učebnic napříč úrovněmi. Sumarizuje rozdílnosti ve výkladu tohoto gramatického jevu a pokusí se vyhodnotit, do jaké míry jsou zaznamenány tyto rozdíly v prezentaci pasiv v učebnicích. Práce je rozdělená na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část popisuje prezentaci pasivních konstrukcí v lingvistických manuálech/odborné literatuře, formu a funkci pasiva, funkce pasiva jako prostředku funkční větné perspektivy, typy pasiv, užívání pasiv a distribuci v jednotlivých žánrech na základě korpusových dat. Praktická část na základě těchto teoretických poznatků bude obsahovat analýzu prezentace pasivních konstrukcí v řadě učebnic angličtiny (procvičování formy, funkcí, prezentace v rámci lexikálních jednotek versus systematický výklad). V konečné fázi se vyhodnotí rozdílnost v prezentaci pasiva v obou typech zdrojů (lingvistických manuálech a učebnicích) a zhodnotí se efektivnost pro didaktické účely.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis compares the presentation of passive structures in selected linguistic manuals and in a number of textbooks across levels. It summarizes the differences in the presentation of this grammatical phenomenon and tries to evaluate to what extent these differences in the presentation of passives in textbooks are taken into account. The Thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part describes the presentation of passive structures in linguistic manuals/professional literature, the form and function of passives, function of passives as a means of functional sentence perspective, types of passives, use of passives and distribution in individual genres based on corpus data. The practical part based on this theoretical knowledge will include an analysis of the presentation of passive structures in a number of English textbooks (practice of form, functions, presentation within lexical units versus systematic interpretation). At the final stage, the difference in the presentation of the passives in in both types of sources (linguistic manuals and textbooks) and effectiveness for didactic purposes will be evaluated.
